How to delete the Twitter account

Twitter is undoubtedly one of the most used social networks in the world. About 150 million users connect to the platform with the blue bird logo every day and, especially in America, it is used for official communications by personalities from politics, sports and entertainment. It is not uncommon, in fact, to see Tweets from the President of the United States, for example.

A social network that is very different from its competitors. Twitter, in fact, allows you to enter short text messages, with a maximum length of 280 characters. We could define it as a “niche” social network, useful for creating constructive debates with very different logics from those of Instagram, for example, where photographic content is depopulated. Although many people use it, you may be tired of being part of it by now and would like to know how delete your Twitter account permanently. In this short guide I will try to provide you with all the useful information to do so. Follow me and, in the blink of an eye, you will have deleted your Twitter profile .

What to know before proceed with the elimination

Before proceeding, it is good that you know what you are going through. In fact, it is not certain that you really need to permanently delete your profile and renounce all tweets created over time and the related data associated with your account.

Before proceeding, therefore, know that:

  • If you need to change your username or email address, you can do so without deleting your account and re-creating one from scratch. Just change them through the account settings
  • Twitter has no control over search engine results. Even if you delete your account, then, Google search results will continue to be visible for some time.
  • Once deactivated, your Twitter account, including your display name, username and public profile, will no longer be visible on twitter.com, Twitter for iOS and Twitter for Android.
  • You will be able to retrace your steps by restoring your account, but this only within 30 days from deactivation
  • After 30 days the operation will be irreversible and all your data will be lost

Delete Twitter account from PC

First let’s see how to perform this simple operation using a normal PC. Here are the steps you will need to take to delete your Twitter account from your PC :

  • Open your browser
  • Type Twitter.com in the address bar
  • Log in with the account you intend to delete
  • Click on Settings and privacy from the drop-down menu under your profile icon.
  • In the Account tab, click on Deactivate your account at the bottom of the page.
  • Read the information on deactivating your account, then click on Deactivate @username .
  • Enter your password when prompted and confirmed you want to proceed by clicking on the Deactivate account button.

That’s it, you have successfully deactivated your account. I remind you that, at this stage, you will still have 30 days of time to retrace your steps and reactivate the account without consequent data loss.

Delete Twitter account from Android Smartphone

Now let’s see how to perform the same procedure from a Smartphone with Android operating system. Here, then, are the steps to take to delete the Twitter account from your Android Smartphone :

  • Open the Twitter app
  • Log in with the account you intend to delete
  • In the top menu you will see the navigation menu icon marked by three horizontal lines or that of your profile. Tap the one that is shown, then tap Settings and privacy .
  • Tap Account and then Deactivate your account at the bottom .
  • Read the information about deactivating your account, then tap Deactivate .
  • Enter the password when prompted and tap Deactivate .
  • Confirm you want to proceed by tapping Yes, deactivate .

Delete Twitter account from iPhone iOS

The same operation can also be performed from iPhone. Here, then, is the procedure you will need to perform to delete the Twitter account from the iPhone :

  • Open the Twitter app
  • Log in with the account you intend to delete
  • In the top menu, tap your profile icon and then Settings and privacy .
  • Tap on Account and then Deactivate your account at the bottom.
  • Read the information on deactivating your account, then tap Deactivate .
  • Enter your password when prompted and tap Deactivate .
  • Confirm that you want to proceed by tapping on Yes, deactivate.
