You have discovered more than one friend who, under the excuse of “using your phone only to make a phone call” peeked into your Instagram account without permission. This thing made you very nervous and, for this reason, you are thinking of blocking access to some apps, including that of the famous photographic social network, with a password. The problem is that you’ve never done anything like this, so you’re not sure how to proceed.
That’s the way it is, right? Then fear not: if you want, I’m here to help you and explain how to put your password on Instagram . If you dedicate a few minutes of your free time to me, I can tell you, in detail, how to block access to Instagram on your smartphone and make sure that to access the app you need to enter a security code that you decide.
Also, if you are interested in this, in the final part of the tutorial I will explain how to put a new password on Instagram, that is, how to change the social login password network, in case you were afraid that someone had discovered it while “fumbling” with your mobile. Come on then: consult the instructions below, put them into practice and say goodbye to the privacy issues related to Instagram you complain at this moment. It will be much easier than you think, I can guarantee it!
How to put the login password on Instagram
Your intent is to put the password on Instagram to prevent unauthorized access to the app? In this case, you can resort to some privacy functions of the operating system installed on your smartphone, or contact third-party apps that provide this function (although, in reality, the first way would always be preferred).
How to put password on Instagram on Android
If you are using an Android device you may find an app lock feature directly in the operating system settings. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be very precise in my indications, as the function in question is not always present and, moreover, it can present menus structured in a different way depending on the version of Android in use.
In any case, to give you a practical example, on the smartphone model in my possession (a Huawei P40 with Android 10) the function is available App lock which, as easily understood, allows you to block access to some of the apps installed on the phone with the PIN set on the device or by face / fingerprint recognition (clearly, one of these measures must first be activated security in the smartphone settings).
To use the App Lock function, just go to the Android Settings menu ( the gear icon located on the Home screen), select the items Security> Lock or app , log in via face / fingerprint recognition or PIN entry and operate the lever next to the app to be blocked, in this case Instagram .
The operation can be reversed at any time: just deactivate the same lever mentioned above, obviously after verifying one’s identity through fingerprint / face recognition or entering the Unlock PIN.
If your Android device does not have a default app blocking function, you have to resort to an external application dedicated to this purpose: there are several on the Play Store and on the alternative stores for the Google home operating system, however you must know how to choose them carefully, since, as can be guessed, they require advanced permissions and could therefore represent high privacy risks.
Personally, I recommend you use Norton App Lock , an app made by the software house developer of the antivirus of the same name, as well as historical signature of the IT security sector: it is free and works with all devices equipped with Android 4.2 or later versions with support for Google services.
Once this is done, set an unlock pattern or a passcode (ie a numeric code, which is what I recommend) to block the access to the apps you want to protect (in your case Instagram ), choose a Google account to link to Norton App Lock, so that you can recover the passcode set in case of loss , and that’s it.
Now, to put the password on Instagram, start Norton App Lock , log in via passcode, pattern or fingerprint, make sure that the app’s padlock is closed (indicating that its protection is active) and select Instagram from the list of available apps (the app name should turn green).
From now on, to start Instagram on Android you will be asked to enter your passcode, unlock pattern or perform fingerprint recognition, depending on how you have chosen in Norton App Lock.
If you want to remove the fingerprint recognition from the unlocking systems supported by Norton App Lock, start the app , log in, press the ☰ button located at the top left, go to Settings and disable the relative lever.
How to put password on Instagram on iPhone
Starting with the release of iOS 12, all iPhones have a function that allows you to block access to apps with a PIN: it’s called T time of use and can be found directly in the operating system settings.
The function in question is very convenient but, having been studied primarily to reduce the time of use of the smartphone and not to block access to apps for privacy reasons, it tends to allow, from time to time, the possibility of giving a “peek” at blocked applications.
This means that, in some situations, by opening the blocked apps, it is possible to find a button that allows you to unlock the selected app for a minute: after this period of time, however, the application is blocked again and the PIN is required to use it.
Having made this necessary premise, let’s get down to business and let’s see how to use it. To begin, access the settings of the iPhone by pressing the gear icon that you find on the Home screen, go to Usage time and, if you haven’t done so yet, set the PIN for app blocking by pressing on Use code “Time of use “: after entering the code twice, you will be asked to enter your Apple ID data (so that you can retrieve the code in case of loss) and that’s it.
Once the code is set, go to App limitations , click on the option Add usage limitation , enter the code that you set up earlier (or that you had already set up previously) and check the box for casella Instagram in the list of apps on your device: you can find it by expanding the Social network section.
Once this is done, click on Next (top right), sets the blocking time of the ’App at 0 hours and 1 min (the minimum you can select); make sure that the lever next to the Block at the end of the limit item is activated (otherwise activate it yourself); tap on the Customize days item and, if you want, choose the days of the week on which to apply the app block and which not. When finished, click on the Add button.
From now on, after a minute of daily use of Instagram , to access the app you will be asked to enter the PIN (if we exclude some sporadic “peek” of one minute which, as mentioned before, could be granted randomly during the day).
In case of second thoughts, to unblock the use of Instagram, all you have to do is go back to the Usage time menu, enter the code , select the restriction set just now, click on Delete limitation (at the bottom of the screen) and confirm. Simple, right?
In case you were wondering, due to the “closure” of iOS, there are no third-party apps that allow you to a password to applications on iPhone.
