Why unfollow someone

But why you should want to to stop following a person on Facebook?

Maybe if you have reached this page, you already have a valid reason at hand and I certainly won’t be trying to make you change your mind, but I still want to deepen this aspect and examine with you the reasons that may have prompted you to consider this procedure which, in any case, is not irreversible (as we will see later).

The reasons can certainly be the most disparate, here is a list of possible reasons:

  • Your feed is clogged with irrelevant content
  • You appear too often content posted by a particular person

  • You don’t want to follow a person, but you don’t want to give up their friendship
  • The contents po states from that person make you uncomfortable or hurt your sensitivity

How to unfollow Facebook friends

Let’s go into practice and see together what is the correct procedure to perform. There are several. In the article we will examine three ways and you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

All the procedures, in any case, will lead to the achievement of the same objective: do not view posts anymore of a specific person within your Facebook homepage.

The procedure is similar whether you prefer to carry it out through the Facebook desktop website, reachable at, or through the app available on Android and iOS.

Unfollowing from a post

You were scrubbing your feed when you come across yet another post from someone who you don’t really like it. The right time to practice the first procedure: unfollow a friend from a post .

Here are the steps you will need to take to do this:

  • Log in to Facebook via website or app
  • Reach the post of the person you want to unfollow
  • Select the three dots at the top right of the post
  • Click on Unfollow . You will no longer see the person’s posts, but you will remain friends on Facebook

Please note, however, that even if you have unfollowed this friend on Facebook, he will still see what you post .

Stop following from his profile

Now let’s see the second method, which consists in going to the profile of a particular person and removing the follow directly from his wall .

Here are the steps you will need to take to do this:

  • Search for the person you want to unfollow through the search bar
  • Click on his name
  • Click on the Follow button next to the cover image
  • If you use the app, you will find three dots near the cover image
  • Select Unfollow
  • If you use the app, tap on Follow and then on Unfollow

Unfollow from the News Feed preferences

The last method is to unfollow a person directly from your News Feed settings. This method is very simple and you can do it without going to the profile of the friend to be unfollowed.

Here are the steps you will need to perform:

  • Reach your profile
  • Click on the arrow-shaped icon at the top right
  • If you use the app click on the three dots
  • Select Preferences News Feed (In the app it is under Settings )
  • Select Unfollow people and groups to hide their posts
  • Select the person to unfollow and click Done

Follow someone again

It often happens that you just want to take a break from certain friends and, after a while, decide to return to follow them. As I told you, unfollow is not an irreversible action. This is different from removing a friend.

If you completely delete a friend from Facebook, in fact, you will then be forced to send a new friend request to get him back in the friends list.

If you’ve changed your mind and want to go back to seeing posts from a friend you previously stopped following, here are the steps you can take:

  • Log in to your Facebook profile
  • Go to your profile
  • Click on the arrow-shaped icon at the top right
  • If you use the app click on the three dots
  • Click on News Feed Preferences
  • Click on Reconnect with unfollowed people and groups
  • Select the person you want to reconnect with. From now on you will return to viewing that person’s posts on your home page.

Useful tip: Facebook also offers you the option to unfollow a person for a period of time.

As we have seen, un-follow a friend on Facebook is an extremely simple operation, which can come in handy on several occasions.

If you know other ways to avoid viewing someone’s posts on Facebook undetected , write them down and I’ll be happy to add them to this list.
