Just like on TikTok , Instagram users can record and edit 15-second music video clips and share them on their Stories, in the Explore Feed and the new Reels tab on your user profile.
Instagram Reels has its own version page of the For You page. You can find the new Reels feed on the Instagram Explore page.
Instead of just seeing Reels from the accounts you follow as you scroll, you’ll see Reels from popular and trending Instagram accounts.

Why is Instagram launching Reels?
If you think most of the features are very similar to those of TikTok , you are not wrong, is not a coincidence.
The reels could be considered a direct response to TikTok’s growing popularity , which has grown exponentially over the past 12 months.
TikTok generated “ the most downloads for any app in a quarter ” in the first quarter of 2020, according to Adweek.
TikTok’s demographics are also changing rapidly . While the app was once dominated by Gen-Z users ( 1997-2010 ), it is now Millennials s ( 1981-1996 ) to constitute the largest percentage of TikTok users, making the platform a much more attractive proposition for advertisers.
According to recent data from Comscore, the percentage of TikTok users with US residents aged 25 to 34 increased from 22.4% in January to 27.4% in April, while the age group 18-24 dropped from 41.1% to 35.3% .
So it’s no surprise that Instagram is moving to replicate TikTok’s most popular features, especially in areas where TikTok hasn’t yet amassed a solid foundation , like Brazil.
Indeed, this isn’t the first time Facebook has tried to launch a TikTok alternative.
F acebook had previously launched a standalone app, Lasso, but failed to take off.
The Reels, however, may have a much better chance of success thanks to its privileged positioning in the ‘Instagram app and all the exposure and familiarity that comes with it.
IGTV has found its positioning as series-based content, where audiences can tune into every episode of their favorite brands or influencers. But, with Reels, it’s filling the void of high-quality content that is still informal, but lasts longer than 24 hours.
It’s a more dynamic and creative opportunity to better show your personality. and your brand.
There are already over 1 billion active users on Instagram and if we’ve learned anything from Instagram Stories, it’s that Instagram knows how to successfully replicate a proven format .
