A few years ago, even before Instagram Stories and TikTok, it was Snapchat that conquered teenagers (and others) from all over the world with its short videos and special effects. Then, over time, the platform seems to have been overshadowed by the innovations introduced by Zuckerberg and the rise of other social giants.
Still, Snapchat still proves to be very popular and downloaded by users of all ages. And very many A Brand is an identifying symbol, trademark, logo, name, word and / or phrase that companies use to distinguish their product from others. A combination … international continue to find interesting the possibilities offered by the platform for the management of advertisements. This means that when you hear about the decline of this social network, you are listening to a somewhat false and biased news.
Snapchat is still a very popular and popular social network. That’s why we decided to create a small guide to the platform that paved the way for interesting news such as Stories and augmented reality.
Let’s take a step back, and try to understand what this platform actually is and how it came about.
What is Snapchat?
It’s not easy to define what Snapchat really is, as it’s a hybrid of a messaging app and a social network. In fact, when it was launched in 2011 by Reggie Brown, Bobby Murphy and Evan Spiegel (three Stanford University students), the application was nothing more than an instant messaging service., with just 127 registered users.
The history of the platform is quite long and troubled, studded with incredible successes and results that have really shocked the world of social media. But it was the innovation that made it so successful.
Unlike other similar tools, Snapchat allows users to exchange audio or video of up to 10 seconds in length – in jargon known as “ snap “- which are deleted immediately after viewing.
In addition, users have the ability to share their own Stories , ie content that remains visible for 24 consecutive hours and then disappears permanently. The precursors of Instagram Stories, that’s all.
Snapchat: how it works
The interface of the platform is very simple and intuitive, which has undoubtedly favored its wide diffusion among teeenagers all over the world. But let’s see in detail how this application is used.
First you will need to download it from Google or Apple Store, depending on the device you use, and then proceed to create your personal account . At the time of registration you will be asked for some basic information, such as email address, password and username (which cannot be changed once set).
Once you’ve signed up, you can start exploring the amazing world of Snapchat. And maybe start adding your first contacts . On the other hand, if you remember, the App was born as a messaging service, so it is essential to connect with your friends before even creating Snaps.
Here’s how. From your user menu, which you can access by clicking on the ghost icon, select the item “Add friends” and then choose the way you prefer to connect to your contacts. The application offers you four different possibilities:
- adding the username
- importing the address book
- using the Snapcode , a unique and scannable code that each user is equipped with
- use the “Add neighbors” option to get in touch with Snapchatters in your area.
And now that you have connected with your friends and acquaintances, you can start creating all the Snaps you want, using a different filter or functionality each time. Let’s see how it’s done.
How to create a Snap
Upon opening the App, you will notice that you don’t have much chance of making a mistake when creating Snap. You will immediately find access to the camera of your smartphone and you are ready to create your first content. By clicking on the button below you can take a photo, and by holding it down you can instead record a video. And so far, nothing complex.
But Snapchat can do more than just take pictures. One of the strengths of the App is in fact the ability to create creative content using special effects .
At the bottom of the screen you will find all the available filters. Just swipe from left to right to find the effect that’s right for you.
But that’s not all. Snapchat allows you to unleash your creativity. Always on the same screen you will find all the features that allow you to change the image to your liking.
By tapping anywhere on the screen, you can add custom captions to the content. Or create freehand drawings and writings using the functionality of the pencil.
And if none of these effects satisfy you, then you can enrich your content with stickers and emojis of all kinds. Once you have your content ready, you can decide how long the user who receives it can view it, choose to save it in your personal “roll” or simply add it to your Stories.
If you choose to add a Snap to your Story , you should know that users have the ability to view it for 24 consecutive hours, after which the content will disappear. Either way, you really choose who can see your Stories or not.
In the settings, you can allow to view the content to: anyone, your friends or a selected circle of contacts.
Once the Snap is shared, you can also see which contacts have viewed it . Just click on the content and scroll up to see which users have seen it and which ones have taken a screenshot.
If you find that you don’t like your Story, you can delete it. If, on the other hand, you want to keep it even after 24 hours, you can save it in your roll by clicking on the arrow-shaped icon pointing downwards.
How-to-view a Snap sent from a contact
Having clarified how to create a Snap, at this point one wonders how to view those sent to you by your contacts. Again, the process is very simple and intuitive. As soon as you receive a notification, you can access the message area by clicking on the balloon icon.
By clicking on the name of the user who sent you the Snap, you can view their video content. However, remember that this disappears as soon as you have viewed it. If you really want to keep an image, you can take a screenshot, but know that the person who sent you the content will be notified.
If we put aside the possibility of sharing Stories for a moment, we can focus on the more purely messaging features of the App.
Like any other social platform, Snapchat also has a chat through which you can exchange messages of all kinds with your contacts.
To access it, all you have to do is click on the cartoon icon on the second screen of the application. By clicking on the name of a contact, you can start the chat by sending all the content you prefer.
Snapchat offers you endless possibilities to text your friends (and others). You can opt for the traditional text message, record an audio or video note (lasting up to 10 seconds), send funny and colorful stickers , or even create a Snap and send it directly to your contact.
But that’s not all. In the lower section of the screen, you will find a number of other useful chat features. By clicking on the images icon, you can send your contact one of the photos you have stored in your smartphone’s gallery.
The two icons of the handset and the camera allows you to initiate a phone call or a video call through the App.
As anticipated, it seems clear to me that Snapchat has all the features of a good instant messaging application.
If you get tired of a contact, or have received messages that are not to your liking, you can block them and prevent them from writing to you again or seeing your updates. Just like all the good apps in the industry.
Snapchat Score: what it is and how to increase it
Unlike all other social platforms, Snapchat has introduced the fun novelty of the Score, namely the score associated with each user . What is it specifically about? It is nothing more than an equation that combines a number of factors associated with your activity on the App, even if it has not been defined with certainty which ones.
In any case, it would appear that your Snapchat Score depends on all of these factors:
- daily use of the application
- number of Snaps sent and received
- amount of Stories shared on the platform
- number of users followed
- multiple Snaps sent to the same contact
- trophies unlocked
If you are wondering how to increase the score associated with your user, the answer is simple: you just need to increase your activity on the platform to become real “champions” of the App.
Snapchat: how to unsubscribe
Are you tired of the App? Or would you simply prefer to use other Stories messaging and sharing services? No problem. You can delete your account at any time you want. And if you’re wondering how to unsubscribe from Snapchat, here’s the answer.
To start the deletion process, you need to open the application, swipe upwards and then click on the gear icon. At this point, a screen opens that allows you to access the support of the platform. In the search bar type “delete” and select the corresponding item from the menu.
To complete the process, Snapchat asks you to type in your password. Just enter it to confirm the cancellation. And so, in a few simple steps, you were able to delete your account from the platform.
This way, your user is deactivated rather than deleted. If you do not decide to reactivate it within 30 days, the App will permanently delete all your data, Snaps and messages of all kinds.
After a month, then, you can really say you’re out of Snapchat. But if you feel like returning to the platform, all you have to do is register with a new username and start all over again!
