There are no books on social media marketing that teach you how to become a social media manager , I would like this to be clear from the beginning.
Books are meant to help you understand the world you operate in, to acquire new tools and new knowledge about your job, but they don’t teach a trade, that’s what you need to practice!
One last thing before we start: in this article I will talk about the best books on social media marketing in my opinion , the ones that I bought and that have brought me here today, but I have not the certainty that they are the best social media marketing books ever.
Social media marketing books that help you become a social media manager
There are millions of books on Facebook, Instagram and marketing in general and each of us must be able to choose the one that most inspires him and comes close to his ropes, these are the ones that have helped and inspired me.
Facebook and Instagram Ads
I purchased this book written by Simone Grossi and Paolino Virciglio, both of Studio Samo, as soon as it came out, mainly because I hadn’t had the chance to go to their latest Ads event.
I must say that I liked the book very much, especially the part relating to the practical case studies, of which I was able to replicate (with adaptations of course) the strategies with my direct clients.
The book is not for beginners, but for people who already have some familiarity with the Business Manager, although its operation is well explained from the basics.
So far, in my opinion it’s the best social media marketing book I’ve ever read about Facebook and Instagram Ads.
The Purple Cow
If you want to stand out on social media, then you have to be a purple cow. I swear I am not offending you, but I am inviting you to find a way to distinguish yourself, to get noticed, exactly as you would notice a purple cow, in the midst of a herd of grazing brown cows.
There are a lot of competitors out there, needless to tell you otherwise and to make your future client really choose you, you need to make sure that you notice, appreciate and trust you.
This process, with many practical examples, is illustrated in the book “The Purple Cow” by Seth Godin. I must admit, it is a bit dated now as a book (2015), but it is definitely one of those to read at the beginning of your career as a social media manager (freelance or not).
Make yourself a brand
If you want to become a freelance social media manager , you need to start thinking of yourself as a brand. You are not just Pinco Pallo who wants to work with social networks, you are a brand, and you must position yourself on the market in such a way as to become a reference point for all those you turn to.
This book, written by the well-known Scandellari, helps you understand that you are a brand and no longer just a person.
It will be a fundamental process to do, even before starting on social media, and that’s why I have included it among the best social media marketing books , even if it does not deal directly with the subject .
Social Media Marketing: Strategies to effectively build and manage your communication on Social Media
If the title is far too long, the content of this e-book is very short, but not of little value.
Written by Valentina Turchetti, consultant and trainer in Digital, Web Marketing and Communication, this is a text that can introduce you to your career as a social media manager, also giving you some interesting real examples from which to take inspiration for your strategies.
The price, then, is very low as it is only available in an e-book version.
Social media monitoring from conversations to strategy
I have to admit, it’s not the best book in the world, but Emanuela Zaccone is a prominent figure within the Ninja Marketing group and I wanted to trust her.
I expected much better when I bought it, but probably because at that time in my life I had already acquired most of the knowledge illustrated in this book.
In any case, I cannot fail to include it among the books that I would recommend for those starting this profession, because it opens the doors to tools and listening methods that you may not have considered before.
Funnel marketing formula
I got this recently and it’s written by Michele Tampieri, funnel marketing expert.
At the beginning of my career I didn’t really understand the importance of a funnel, but after the first year as a freelance it became necessary to understand it, also because, without a funnel, we can’t think of selling on social networks.
The book explains how to build your customer journey (customer journey), from the care and development of your personal branding (or brand reputation if you represent a brand) up to the design of sales systems for your products or services (on social networks and otherwise).
No less important is the issue of remarketing, on Facebook in particular, which allows you to reach an audience that already knows you and with whom, therefore, you have established a relationship and is (potentially) more inclined to buy from you. But that’s all I’ll tell you, otherwise you’ll lose the pleasure of reading the book.
Facebook marketing strategies and tactics for companies and professionals
If you plan to become a social media manager and sell on Facebook, then you will surely already know the author of this book: Veronica Gentili.
I started my freelance career following her and this book has certainly helped me understand some dynamics of the Facebook world that were still obscure to me.
The book is easy to understand , it offers a fairly thorough overview of Facebook Marketing, but if you are not a beginner, perhaps this book is not enough for you.
If you are looking for a book to start ads on Facebook, to understand what the Facebook Pixel is and how to install it, how its algorithm works and this may be a good place to start.
